Description

Weller (2016) examines OER publications from 2001 to 2015 to understand research trends and classify them by category. He finds that "an emerging OER discipline" (p. 409) first appeared in 2007, which is the first year that more than 10 studies related to OER were published. More than 100 OER-related studies were published in each year starting with 2010. He ultimately identifies 10 categories of OER research. Ranked by the frequency they appeared in 2015 studies, these are: (1) MOOCs, (2) OER as subject, (3) policy, (4) practitioner, (5) pedagogy, (6) project case study, (7) technical, (8) research with impact data, (9) open data/practice/access, and (10) OER in developing nations.
