Freiwillige Selbstkontrolle Multimedia-Dienstanbieter e.V.
The Voluntary Self-Monitoring of Multimedia Service Providers (FSM e. V.) is a non-profit association concerned with the protection of young people in online media. Within the system of regulated self-regulation introduced under the Interstate Treaty on the Protection of Minors in the Media (JMStV) 2003 the FSM is the accredited self-regulatory body for the field of telemedia.
Together with its member companies and associations the FSM is actively engaged in strengthening youth protection in the media and to control content in online media which is illegal, harmful to young people and liable to hinder their normal development.
To secure uniform higher standards in youth protection the FSM, together with its members, has established voluntary commitments for various areas of the online world. Members of the association can adopt the model of regulated self-regulation and engage the FSM in the event of dispute with the Commission for Protection of Minors in the Media (KJM).
The FSM maintains a hotline which any user can apply to free of charge to report online content liable to prosecution and harmful for young people. Other core tasks of the FSM include extensive educational work and promotion of media competence of children and adults.
