As an institute of the Leibniz Association, the mission of IPN is the development and promotion of science and mathematics education through research. The IPN's teams of scientists, experts in science and mathematics education, pedagogues, and psychologists work together - their focus is the fundamental research questions concerning the teaching and learning of sciences and mathematics. In addition, IPN is involved in science and mathematics teacher education at Kiel University. With respect to OER, the project OER@IPN is coordinated at IPN. OER@IPN aims at improving the transfer from research into practice to support teachers in the development of their teaching. To reach this aim, the OER platform fOERde (https://oer.uni-kiel.de/) is developed and implemented in cooperation with Kiel University. The goal of the platform is not to develop a comprehensive database of teaching materials. It rather aims at presenting examples of materials related to important aspects of science and mathematics education like e.g. inquiry-based teaching, context-based teaching or formative and summative assessment. These materials are embedded by additional information or materials (like e.g. a tutorial about inquiry-based teaching) to support teachers in the intended use of the materials. Moreover, it is known from implementation research that just providing materials is not sufficient to change teaching routines. The implementation of the platform is thus accompanied by Communities of Practice in which science educators and teachers collaboratively develop OER materials.
