KU has so far ‘unlatched’ two collections of over 100 front list HSS titles, supported by 380 libraries and consortia around the world. The first collection so far has an average of 2,400 downloads per title in 180 countries, which is vastly more than the couple of hundred copies sold of similar monographs that remain closed. Knowledge Unlatched is an opportunity for libraries to ensure that monograph spending secures the widest possible access to scholarly books. It also offers libraries cost saving opportunities that will increase as the project scales.
