Considered by the evaluation systems of higher education in Brazil as one of the best universities in the country, the UFMG is well-positioned in the most diverse academic indicators. Its community gathers about 72 thousand people in the cities of Belo Horizonte, Montes Claros, Diamantina and Tiradentes, which are organized around 77 undergraduate courses, 80 graduate programs, and more than 750 research centers. In 2016, the UFMG reached 1076 patent registrations, which gives it a leading position among higher education institutions in the country. The University offers distance education courses, which are structured in the levels of graduation, specialization, improvement and updating. These courses are present in 24 cities, located in all regions of the state.
