The aim of the BMBF-funded cooperation project is to promote the usage, production, and dissemination of Open Educational Resources (OER) in the context of service learning in all areas of education, from primary to higher education, including vocational and individual learning. Along with this goal, it supports learning and teaching concepts which focus on openness, participation, and which serve the civil society. By opening educational institutions it also contributes to more equal opportunities in education. As the production of OER is based on the commitment of teachers and learners it results from similar cultural attitudes as service learning.
In the project, we address several target groups: Teachers and students as well as partners in the field of service learning and also teachers and students who are involved in the usage of digital media in teaching and learning or are interested in one or both fields. In order to achieve the above mentioned goals, we sensitize and activate these target groups for the handling and production of learning materials under free licensing through workshops and counselling.
The project is run as a cooperative project by three universities: the Leuphana University of Lüneburg, the Goethe University of Frankfurt am Main and the Catholic University of Eichstätt-Ingolstadt.
The realization of the project goals is implemented in three different work packages: Work package 1 includes the sensitization, advice and qualification of teachers in schools and colleges and actors in civil society. Work Package 2 covers the further development and opening up of OER to study programs and to promote integration. The work package 3 aims at the design of OER by students and curricular anchoring at universities with partner organizations. Two additional work packages include the description practices of usage of OER in service learning projects and the coordination of the project as well as networking with external partners and similar projects in the OER funding program.
